About ASAP

welkom1In 1997 the ASAP Foundation started founding a small medical clinic in the village Fina in Burkina Faso. Thirteen years later, ASAP has grown to be a solid organization with an office in the Netherlands and an office in Burkina Faso. It owns tens of development projects in the fields of education, alphabetization, health and economical development in the different villages in the rural areas of Burkina Faso.

History

historieAfter 40 years of letter correspondence, Hervé Millet decided to visit his penpal Jean Millogo in Burkina Faso in February 1997. During a visit to Jean's place of birth Fina, Hervé noticed that the villagers were in lack of a medical clinic. If they would be able to build one, the government would provide the medical staff: but they were in lack of a great amount of money. Because the clinic was very much needed and a long kept wish of the Fina villagers, Hervé decided to, when back in the Netherlands, raise the funds for it and in September of that same year he returned to Burkina Faso to start the construction of the clinic.

Mission

missie1ASAP aims sustainable improvement of the economic, social and health conditions of villagers in Burkina Faso. To secure the future of the current generation children, ASAP has a strong focus on the development of the children, their parents and their environment. This is accomplished by projects in the fields of education, knowledge, health and economic means.

Organization

organisatieThe ASAP Foundation started in 1997 with the founding of a small medical clinic as a personal initiative, but never stopped growing and expanding and now owns a Board, several employees and many volunteers in both the Netherlands and Burkina Faso.

 

Housing

ASAP has an office in the Netherlands and one in Burkina Faso. The office in the Netherlands is responsible for fundraising and communication with the donors and all other supporters. The office in Burkina Faso is occupied with carrying out and supervising the projects locally.

The Netherlands, for comparison, are on the sixth position. Largest part of Burkina Faso's people lives of agriculture, that is financially supported by the UN.

ASAP and the millennium goals

The Millennium Goals are eight international development goals that in 2000 all 192 United Nations member states have agreed to achieve by the year 2015. They include reducing extreme poverty, reducing child mortality rates, fighting disease epidemics such as AIDS, and developing global partnerships for development.

The annual report of 2008 was even nominated for the Transparency Price. For anyone who would like to know more about ASAP, reading the annual report is worth it. Lycée Agricole Privé (LAP)
